Description
The Menokin Remembrance Structure is a memorial that honors the enslaved persons who once worked at Menokin, as well as their modern descendants. Built on a former plantation, the wooden structure replicates an enslaved person’s eighteenth-century dwelling. The structure is sited directly above the archaeological remains of the dwelling. The wooden framing of the gable-roofed structure is covered with sheer translucent building fabric. At night, solar lighting illuminates the entire pavilion, creating a soft, luminous effect.
